Mother Kate Ross.

The Reverend Kate Ross

An avowed atheist through her teenage years, Mother Kate stumbled upon Christianity while studying medieval literature at the University of Queensland. She discovered that a basic knowledge of Christianity helped considerably in reading this literature.

After taking courses in Christian thought, Kate found herself drawn to the Anglican church, to its solemnity, ritual, music, awe and hospitality. She was baptised at Holy Trinity, Fortitude Valley, in 1991.

Prior to ordination, Kate worked for 25 years with the Australian Public Service in Canberra, Darwin and Sydney. She worked primarily with statistics about Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, with several published articles in this area.

Mother Kate studied for a Master of Divinity degree in the United States, at Yale University. Upon graduating in 2019, she returned home to Brisbane and ordination.

Kate was an assistant at St John’s Cathedral, Brisbane from 2019 to 2021. She moved to the Parish of Bundaberg as assistant priest in 2021. Having served as locum tenens for six months, Kate was then commissioned as Priest-in-charge in October 2023.

Assistant Curate Matt Siggins

Originally from England, Matt attended a Church of England Junior school attached to his local church, St. Dunstan’s, on the edge of Southwest London. His formative years were closely associated with the church.

Upon going to a secular high school and moving on to work, Matt lost his way for a period with Christian life. Upon traveling the world and after settling down, Matt was a father to three beautiful children who are now young adults and living in Brisbane.

Matt’s mother, who had also emigrated, encouraged Matt to return to the Church. Matt returned to the Anglican tradition and after many years doing all the varied jobs and ministries that Church life can offer, found himself as an active member of the Parish of Grovely in Brisbane.

Matt worked as a State Sales manager for a multinational electronics company and had similar roles before God’s calling became too irresistible to resist any longer and Matt explored the possibility of ordained ministry.

Having had his calling affirmed, Matt then studied at St Francis Theological College in Milton and was invited into the ordained ministry formation group which he was part of until his ordination as a Deacon in December 2024. At this point Matt was called to the role as the Assistant Curate here in Bundaberg.
